To deal with the Covid-19 crisis, the Senegalese government decreed the closure of schools on March 16. In order to ensure educational continuity, the ISM Group is deploying an unprecedented system. In addition to the existing virtual library, Scholarvox, homework, and virtual teaching aids, the teams have been busy setting up a technological platform allowing the delivery of online and interactive courses: Blackboard Collaborate, a collaborative online learning solution that allows you to create virtual rooms for different courses.

A WINNING STRATEGY!

The general director of the ISM Group, Abdou Diouf, explains: "This measure to close schools being renewed by the Senegalese government, the measures already taken have been maintained and reinforced. In terms of education, we have switched to 100% of online courses as of this Monday, April 06 on Blackboard Collaborate. ”

In a short time, the ISM has indeed managed to switch to 100% online for higher education students. For this it was necessary to train very quickly more than 300 teachers and speakers in the appropriation of the tool and its functionalities, that is to say in a new teaching system and in innovative practices allowing regular interactions. and regulated with the students throughout the sessions.

Concretely this means, on April 6 :

* +300 teachers trained

* +200 lessons given

* +4500 connected students (license and masters)

Mbaye Amar, director of operations for the ISM Group and the School of Engineers, talks about this technological “feat”: ”To operate the changeover from our distance training, we had to be extremely agile and proactive in the actions taken to ensure the continuity of educational activities. And, to support this rapid change, a quality assurance system has also been put in place to measure each week the level of student satisfaction as much on the use of the platform, the lessons delivered but above all, the difficulties they encounter in order to take charge of them immediately. ”

Thierry Montaut, associate professor of Mathematics at the INUC in Albi Toulouse, is involved in the double degree in computer science license, and is satisfied with his first online session: “Everything went well with L2 in graphs. Blackboard is a very good solution, very stable, flexible, and comfortable. It was a pleasure to give them a "real lesson". For the rest, I think the students will enjoy regular Blackboard meetings! ”

As for the students, they adapt rather well to the situation and can continue their teaching. Aminata, in the 1st year of Bachelor Web and multimedia project manager within the Digital Campus, testifies: "Thanks to the platform, we can continue our year despite the situation, unlike other universities. The teachers take the time to do well Explain and involve everyone. A big strength is that we can have the recordings at the end of each course, which allows us to review the explanations, in case we have not understood everything. ”

The ISM Group pioneered the use of Blackboard Collaborate for online education!

In this changeover approach and in order not to interrupt the courses, the ISM was supported by the technical teams of Galileo Global Education and Studi for the provision of certain online course content. By belonging to the Galileo Global Education network, the ISM Group benefits from the partnership established with Blackboard Collaborate in February 2019, which allows the use of this online learning platform and all the educational functionalities.

“The standards, the quality approach, the standards, the methodology… are often considered boring, but they are very useful in these situations. Today, the Galileo group has cross-functional departments capable of dealing with the Covid-19 crisis, "said Marc-François Mignot Mahon, president of the Galileo Global Education group, a few days ago.

Business continuity has been extended to almost all departments, so employees have mostly opted for telework when their job allows them. The educational system is also being deployed for private high schools of excellence and elementary spaces in order to ensure that everyone continues to receive courses in the best conditions.
